Tin Can is the next generation of SCORM—it tracks and records learning experiences anywhere from multiple devices. While SCORM presents obstacles that have caused the e-Learning industry’s software to stagnate, Tin Can provides new opportunities for Lectora® e-Learning software and CourseMill® LMS users.
Tim Martin from Rustici Software, who has been working on Tin Can API as part of Project Tin Can, presented “Tin Can is Coming! Here’s What That Means to You” at the 2013 Lectora User Conference.
Tin Can API is a shared language of experience. It’s a way for systems to talk to each other about what people do. Tin Can allows a wide range of e-Learning systems to capture learning activities with a simple vocabulary and communication method.
Martin wants everyone to understand how e-Learning standards are changing and how Tin Can API can make amazing new things possible. Martin explains, “Standards are written to serve the intent of people. We, those of us working on the Tin Can API, want to help people succeed.”
He also says that Tin Can API is no longer just an idea. The current tools will progress only as fast as you ask them to, so you should take advantage of Tin Can and the success you can achieve through this new standard of e-Learning capabilities.
